Paired kidney exchanges are not as popular as they used to be because there is no standard way for insurance companies to determine which company pays for which donor's surgery.

John Schieszer reports in today's Medical Minute that an extra 1,000 transplants could be done every year in the United States if financial barriers were eliminated.
