Renoprotective Effect of Aliskiren Shown

Aliskiren, an oral direct renin inhibitor, may have renoprotective effects that are independent of its BP-lowering effect in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy who are receiving the maximal recommended renoprotective treatment and optimal antihypertensive therapy, researchers report.

Renal Angioplasty, Stents Effective

CHICAGO—Most patients with renovascular hypertension experience improved BP control and improved or stabilized renal function following renal artery angioplasty and stent placement, according to findings presented here at the American College of Cardiology annual meeting.
