Serum PSA levels are lower in men with type 2 diabetes than in healthy men, researchers reported in Diabetes Care (2008;31:930-931).

Michiaki Fukui, MD, of the Graduate School of Medical Science in Kyoto, Japan, and colleagues compared serum PSA levels in 224 diabetic men with those in 1,293 healthy men. Except for subjects aged 40-49 years, serum PSA levels were lower in diabetic men than in healthy men. Age, BMI, and presence of diabetes were independent determinants of PSA level.
