Researchers have come up with projections suggesting that urologists and nephrologists will be in short supply in coming years, in part because the number of new urologists and nephrologists emerging from training programs will not keep pace with growing demand from an aging population and the anticipated swelling ranks of patients with chronic and end-stage renal disease and other urologic ailments.

Retirements also may contribute to diminishing urologist and nephrologist manpower in the future.
