Public health officials say the latest Ebola outbreak is the worst to date. So far, nearly 1,000 people have died from Ebola infection.
According to recent media reports, this outbreak may have started with a 2-year-old patient in Guinea. The virus, which is transmitted through direct contact with blood and other bodily fluids but not via coughing and sneezing, has since spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria, and the World Health Organization has declared an international public health emergency.
Two American patients infected with the virus are being treated in Atlanta, prompting concerns about a potential outbreak in the U.S.
