The amount of medical information available online via thousands of web sites is staggering.

Some sites contain questionable or misleading information, but some are sponsored by trustworthy and prestigious medical organizations and institutions and state and federal agencies (such as the National Institutes of Health). 

Anybody with a computer and Internet access can access these sites to learn about various diseases and conditions and their signs and symptoms and treatments. In fact, medical information is among the major reason people search the Internet.
