The role of radical prostatectomy (RP) for high-risk clinically localized prostate cancer (PCa) is controversial, with some data suggesting it may be associated with outcomes comparable to those of external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) with or without androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).
For example, a study by Boorjian et al. (Cancer 2011;117:2883-2891) comparing RP, EBRT alone, and EBRT plus ADT showed that the three approaches are associated with similar long-term cancer control for patients with high-risk PCa.
