California Gov. Jerry Brown on June 30 signed off on one of the strictest school vaccination laws in the United States. Starting July 1, 2016, all children enrolled in public or private schools or day care programs in California must be vaccinated against a number of infectious diseases, including whooping cough and measles, regardless of parents’ religious or personal beliefs. The law still allows for medical exemptions from vaccination. Parents who are opposed to vaccination have the option of home schooling their children.
