Kidney cancer is likely to develop in men whose jobs expose them to high levels of sunlight than in men whose work does not expose them to the sun, according to a study published in Cancer (published online ahead of print).
A study of 1,097 patients with and 1,476 without kidney cancer revealed a 24% to 38% reduction in kidney cancer risk with increasing occupational sunlight exposure among the male subjects.
No such association was observed among women participating in the study, which was led by Sara Karami, PhD, of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md.
