Tamsulosin may be an effective treatment for women with voiding dysfunction due to functional bladder outlet obstruction (BOO), according to data published in Urologia Internationalis (2009;83:311-315).

In a prospective, open label study conducted in Italy, 63 women with functional BOO were treated with tamsulosin. At the end of therapy, voiding symptoms improved in 45 patients (71.4%). Of the 26 women who had recurrent infections, 21 (81%) had a 50% reduction in these infections.
