Statin use by obese men may increase their risk of prostate cancer, according to study findings published in the American Journal of Epidemiology (2008;168:250-260).

The study of 1,001 prostate cancer cases and 942 age-matched controls found that men with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater had a 50% increased risk of pros-tate cancer compared with obese non-users.

The risk was 80% greater for those who used statins for five years or more.
