Among 163 men diagnosed with testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT) and 292 controls, those who had ever smoked marijuana were almost twice as likely as non-users of marijuana to develop the disease.
Stratification on tumor histology demonstrated a specific association between marijuana use and nonseminoma and mixed-histology tumors.
The study by Victoria K. Cortessis, PhD, of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and colleagues, which was published online in Cancer, also found that cocaine use was associated with a 46% reduced risk of TGCT compared with non-use.
