Prevalent kidney stone disease is not independently associated with all-cause and cardiovascular (CV) mortality, according to an analysis of data from 14,879 participants in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

In unadjusted analyses, stone formers had a nearly twofold higher risk for all-cause and CV mortality, but the increased risk for either outcome disappeared after adjusting for age, gender, race, and poverty, researchers reported in the American Journal of Nephrology (201337:501-506).
