The Cleveland Clinic has appointed Robert Heyka, MD, as its new chair of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute, according to a press release.
The Board of Directors at the Cleveland Clinic chose Dr. Heyka after “an exhaustive national search for top candidates,” said Glickman Chairman Eric Klein, MD.
“His appointment reflects his strong leadership skills and deep understanding of, and commitment to, the Cleveland Clinic culture of patient care, education and research,” Dr. Klein said.
Joining the staff in 1987, Dr. Heyka previously served as the Medical Director for Fresenius Medical Care Cleveland Clinic Eastside Dialysis Center, the Director of Chronic Hemodialysis in the Department of Hypertension and Nephrology, and the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Fresenius Medical Care Ohio Renal Care Group.
He received his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, and completed an internship in internal medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. He completed a residency at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.
“This appointment recognizes the superb job he has done while serving as interim chair,” Dr. Klein said.
