Uromodulin may be a novelpredictive serum biomarker for chronic kidney disease (CKD),researchers reported online in theJournal of Hypertension.
In a study of 529 patients, AndreasLeiherer, MD, of the Vorarlberg Institutefor Vascular Investigation and Treatment,Feldkirch, Austria, and colleaguesfound that serum uromodulin concentrationwas inversely associated with thedevelopment of CKD, and it significantlyimproved the performance of a predictionmodel for CKD.
