Low birth weight is associated with a 73% increased risk of CKD later in life, according to a systematic review published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases (2009; published online ahead of print).
The review, by Sarah L. White, MPH, of The University of Sydney in Australia, and colleagues, included 31 cohort or case-control studies with data from 49,376 individuals as well as data for 2.1 million individuals from a single record-linkage study.
