A study of 2,649 men and women aged 18 years and older has uncovered no evidence that aging alone influences CKD, instead identifying hypertension as the only comorbid condition to contribute to kidney damage in both men and women, according to a report in the Journal of Nephrology (2010;23:444-452).

Male gender, ineffectively treated hypertension, diabetes, and age reached borderline significance as independent predictors of elevated albuminuria for the group as a whole, but for women, the only such predictor was ineffectively treated hypertension; for men, those predictors were hypertension (regardless of treatment effectiveness), diabetes, smoking, and age.
