High-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) in retropubic radical prostatectomy specimens predicts a significantly higher risk of biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer, according to a study published in BJU International (2007;100:1066-1070).

 

The biochemical failure risk was nearly twofold greater in the 1,885 men with HGPIN than in the 248 men without HGPIN, after controlling for PSA level, pathological stage, and Gleason sum.
