FDA Warns About Wearing Medicated Patches During MRIs

The FDA has issued a Public Health Advisory about the potential for burns if transdermal drug patches are worn during MRI scanning.  

The agency issued the advisory after learning that a warning was missing on some patches which contain aluminum or other metals in their nonadhesive backing.

Although not attracted to the magnetic field of the MRI machine, the metal can conduct electricity, generating heat that can cause burns. Cases of such burns have been reported.
