Verathon has introduced the BladderScan BVM 9500 bladder volume instrument.
The device, which measures the ultrasound-estimated bladder weight (UEBW) and bladder volume quickly and noninvasively, can help diagnose bladder dysfunction, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia and bladder outlet obstruction.
“The BladderScan BVM 9500 provides urologists with a quick, accurate, easy-to-use instrument for measuring bladder volume and UEBW,” said company CEO and Chairman Gerald McMorrow.

When the scan button is pressed, the device measures ultrasonic reflections on multiple planes inside the body to produce a 3D image, according to a press release issued by the Bothell, Wash.-based company.
Based on this image, the device calculates and displays the bladder volume and UEBW on a color console. Results can be obtained in minutes.
