A public survey conducted in The Netherlands found that a quarter of the general public believes it would be desirable or very desirable to introduce financial incentives to encourage living kidney donation.

 

Forty-six percent of respondents said it would be undesirable or very undesirable.

The study, led by Leonieke Kranenburg, MSc, of Erasmus University Medical Centre in Rotterdam, examined responses to questionnaires completed by 550 individuals. Results were published in Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation (2008; 23:1039-1042).
