Chronic periodontitis is associated with a significantly increased risk of erectile dysfunction (ED), according to the findings of a recent systematic review and meta-analysis published in the International Journal of Impotence Research.

In an analysis of data from 4 case-control studies and 1 cross-sectional study involving 213,006 participants, a team led by Zhigang Zhao, MD, of Guangzhou Medical University in Guangzhou, China, found that chronic periodontitis was associated with 2.2-fold increased odds of ED.
