ORLANDO—Treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI) with tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) is associated with a high long-term success rate, researchers reported at the American Urological Association 2014 annual meeting.

In a study of 206 women who underwent the TVT procedure, the overall cure rate at 13 years was 82.5% and the overall satisfaction rate was 67.5%, according to Phil Hyun Song, MD, and colleagues at Yeungnam University in Daegu, Korea.

At 1 year follow-up after surgery, 21 patients (10.2%) had post-operative complications. At 13-year follow-up after surgery, however, only 3 patients (1.5%) had post-operative complications, including mesh exposure in 1 patients and de novo urgency in 2. Multivariate analysis found no independent risk factors associated with cure and satisfaction.
