Viral infections:
Indications for: TPOXX
Human smallpox disease caused by variola virus in patients weighing ≥13kg.
Limitations of Use:
Efficacy in humans has not been determined. Efficacy may be reduced in immunocompromised patients.
Adults and Children:
Take within 30mins after a moderate or high fat meal. If difficulty swallowing, may open capsule and mix contents in 30mL of liquid or soft food (eg, milk, apple sauce, yogurt); consume entire mixture. 13–<25kg: 200mg twice daily; 25–<40kg: 400mg twice daily; ≥40kg: 600mg twice daily. All: treat for 14 days.
TPOXX Warnings/Precautions:
Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.
TPOXX Classification:
Antiviral.
TPOXX Interactions:
May potentiate repaglinide; monitor for hypoglycemia. May antagonize midazolam; monitor efficacy.
Adverse Reactions:
Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting.
