Muscle spasms:

Indications for: LYVISPAH

Spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis, particularly for the relief of flexor spasms and concomitant pain, clonus, and muscular rigidity. May also be of some value in patients with spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases.

Limitations of Use:

Not for treatment of skeletal muscle spasm resulting from rheumatic disorders.

Adult Dosage:

Allow granules to dissolve in the mouth or can be swallowed. Also, can mix contents (1 packet) with up to 15mL of liquid or soft foods (eg, applesauce, yogurt, or pudding) if needed for administration within 2hrs. If multiple packets are required, each packet must be mixed with a separate volume of liquid or soft food. May also administer via enteral feeding tubes. Start with lowest dose possible; adjust based on response and tolerability. Initially 5mg 3 times daily for 3 days. May increase by increments of 5mg 3 times daily every 3 days, as needed; up to max 80mg daily.

Children Dosage:

<12yrs: not established.

LYVISPAH Warnings/Precautions:

Avoid abrupt cessation. Withdraw gradually during discontinuation. Stroke. Psychotic disorders. Schizophrenia. Confusional states. Autonomic dysreflexia. Epilepsy. Beneficial spasticity. Renal impairment. Elderly. Neonatal withdrawal symptoms; gradually reduce dose and discontinue treatment prior to delivery. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.

LYVISPAH Classification:

Muscle relaxant (central).

LYVISPAH Interactions:

Additive CNS depression with alcohol, other CNS depressants.

Adverse Reactions:

Drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, nausea, confusion, hypotension, headache, insomnia, constipation, urinary frequency, fatigue; ovarian cysts, seizures and hallucinations on abrupt withdrawal.
