Edema:

Indications for: Indapamide

Edema.

Adult Dosage:

Initially 2.5mg once daily in the AM. After 1 week, may increase to 5mg daily.

Children Dosage:

Not established.

Indapamide Contraindications:

Anuria. Sulfonamide allergy.

Indapamide Warnings/Precautions:

Renal or hepatic impairment. Arrhythmia. Diabetes. Gout. SLE. Postsympathectomy. Excessive fluid loss. Monitor electrolytes, uric acid, glucose, and renal function. K+ supplements or K+-sparing diuretics may be needed. Discontinue if electrolyte disorders develop rapidly. Acute angle-closure glaucoma (with or without acute myopia and choroidal effusions). Elderly. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers: not recommended.

Indapamide Classification:

Diuretic (indoline).

Indapamide Interactions:

Digitalis, lithium toxicity. Adjust antidiabetic medications. NSAIDs may cause renal failure. ACTH, corticosteroids increase hypokalemia risk. May potentiate other antihypertensives. May block epinephrine. May interfere with parathyroid tests.

Adverse Reactions:

Electrolyte disorders (esp. hypokalemia, hyponatremia), hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia, gout, arrhythmias, headache, nervousness, blurred vision, muscle cramps, dizziness, fatigue, orthostatic hypotension, cough, GI disturbances.
