Bioengineered Blood Vessel Implanted in a Dialysis Patient

Investigators at Duke University in Durham, N.C., have developed a bioengineered blood vessel and successfully implanted it in a dialysis patient.

The new vessel contains no living cells, so it can easily be stored onsite at hospitals, making it the first off-the-shelf engineered graft that has made it into clinical evaluation.
