Have malpractice award caps made any difference in medical practice?

Most if not all states have been trying to control healthcare costs. At part of that effort, many states have passed legislation that implement caps on medical malpractice awards for non-economic damages.

The idea behind the caps, in part, is to cut down on the practice of defensive medicine, which adds to healthcare costs, and to decrease or slow the rise in malpractice premiums.

Whether or not these damage caps have had a direct influence on defensive medicine and malpractice premiums is debatable. Renal & Urology News would like to ask its nephrologist and urologist readers the following poll question.
