How often do you ask about CAM use?
According to the 2007 National Health Interview Survey, some 38% of Americans aged 18 years and older used some form of complementary or alternative medicine (CAM).
CAM products frequently are used despite clinical trial evidence of their safety and efficacy. It is known that some CAM products may be harmful on their own and could interact in dangerous ways if taken concomitantly with prescription medications.
For this reason, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and medical organizations urge people to tell their healthcare providers about any CAM use. But how much of an effort do healthcare providers put forth to elicit this information from patients?
Renal & Urology News would like to put this question to nephrologists and urologists, so please answer the following poll question.
