How many dialysis pts. have expressed to you their desire to discontinue so that they can hasten death?
Dialysis patients in the U.S. have a high annual mortality rate and many have a poor quality of life, particularly those with multiple comorbid conditions.
Like other populations of patients with incurable diseases that have made their lives unbearable (such as those in terrible pain from advanced metastatic cancer), the dialysis population may have patients whose quality of life is such that they would prefer to end their lives.
