Organic foods are produced without the use of synthetic pesticides and additives. They used to be sold mainly in health food stores, but today virtually all major supermarkets have an organic food section. Organic foods typically command higher prices than their non-organic counterparts, despite a lack of convincing scientific evidence that organic foods are healthier. However, the Organic Consumers Association makes the following claim on its website: “Organic food is pure food. It's safer, more nutritious and free of chemical additives.”
