As a result of the recent midterm elections, Republicans will be the majority party in the Senate and have increased their majority in the House of Representatives.
Among other legislative agendas, the new Republican-controlled Congress could take aim at the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”), either to repeal it—which is seen as unlikely because the President can veto such legislation (and it takes a two-thirds vote of both chambers to override a veto)—or remove or change certain provisions, such as the individual mandate that requires people to have health insurance or pay a penalty.
