Researchers who analyzed blood samples from more than 3,000 non-dialysis CKD patients found that 9.5% of them had subclinical hypothyroidism, according to a report in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (published online ahead of print).

The lower the patients' renal function, the greater their risk of subclinical hypothyroidism, which was present in 7% of patients with mild CKD and 18% of those with moderate CKD.
