Strict perioperative glucose control nephroprotective
Strict blood glucose control with insulin may reduce the risk of postoperative renal impairment and renal failure after cardiac surgery, data suggest.

Group A, with 305 patients, had standard glucose management, and group B, with 396 patients, had strict glucose control (80-130 mg/dL during surgery and 80-110 mg/dL in the ICU). Following surgery, 4.3% of group A required acute postoperative dialysis compared with 1.3% of group B.
