Hemodialysis Patients May Benefit from Fish Oil
Researchers randomized eight patients to receive 1.3 g of fish oil and four to receive placebo (corn/soybean oil). Post-supplementation levels of two PUFAs—eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid—in RBCs rose dramatically in the fish oil group compared with placebo recipients.
Four fish oil recipients reported minor, primarily GI, side effects. The study was presented here National Kidney Foundation 2007 Spring Clinical Meetings.
