New AUA Guidelines: Do More Vasectomies

Vasectomy should be considered for permanent contraception much more frequently than is the current practice in the United States and elsewhere, according to new guidelines from the American Urological Association (AUA) on the provision of vasectomy services.

Three other new AUA guidelines published in the same journal issue cover evidence-based statements for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of overactive bladder; urodynamic testing in common lower urinary tract symptoms; and diagnosis, evaluation, and follow-up of asymptomatic microhematuria.
