Marketing Clearance Granted to New Glucose Test Strips

Abbott has received FDA clearance to market FreeStyle Lite glucose test strips. The test strips minimize interference during blood glucose testing and are designed to offer a better experience, Abbott says.

The test strips use a GDH-FAD enzyme, which, unlike the GDH-PQQ enzyme, is not affected by common non-glucose sugars such as maltose or galactose. The test strips are compatible with all FreeStyle Lite blood glucose monitoring systems, eliminating the need to switch meters.

The first shipments were expected to ship to U.S. customers in July. Retailers and consumers can expect widespread availability by the end of August, the company says.
