Nocturnal Dialysis May Improve Angiogenesis

Nocturnal hemodialysis significantly improves the ability of early-outgrowth endothelial progenitor-like cells (EPLCs) to promote the growth of new blood vessels and thus restore perfusion in a model of ischemic vascular disease, according to findings published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (2011;6:1345-1353).

When EPLCs from conventional dialysis patients, nocturnal patients, and healthy controls were injected into rats, the latter two sets of cells significantly improved ischemic hindlimb perfusion and capillary density.
