Triglycerides, Dementia Linked

High triglyceride levels may increase a person's risk of vascular dementia twofold, according to a four-year French study of 7,087 community-dwelling subjects aged 65 years and older.

According to a report in Diabetes Care (2009;32:169-174), a high triglyceride level—the only component of metabolic syndrome associated with vascular dementia—also was associated with a 45% increased risk of all-cause dementia. It was not associated with Alzheimer's disease.
