Uromodulin may be a novel predictive serum biomarker for chronic kidney disease (CKD), researchers reported online in the Journal of Hypertension

In a study of 529 patients, Andreas Leiherer, MD, of the Vorarlberg Institute for Vascular Investigation and Treatment, Feldkirch, Austria, and colleagues found that serum uromodulin concentration was inversely associated with the development of CKD, and it significantly improved the performance of a prediction model for CKD.
