The beta blocker Bystolic (nebivolol), a once-daily medication that can be used alone or in combination with other hypertension treatments, has received FDA marketing clearance. In clinical trials involving more than 2,000 patients, Bystolic demonstrated significant reductions in sitting diastolic and systolic BP in a general hypertensive population. Bystolic's side effects reported were headache, fatigue, dizziness and diarrhea. Mylan Bertek Pharmaceuticals Inc., of Research Triangle Park, N.C., is the sponsor of Bystolic. Forest Laboratories, Inc. holds sales and marketing rights to the drug.
